Speaking to My Soul

“By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me—a prayer to the God of my life” (Psalm 42:8 TNIV).

The psalmist wrote this thought right in the middle of a spiritual battle. He felt alone, and he feared that God had forgotten him. He wondered why God hadn’t rescued him from his enemy (9).

Mules (Hot Springs Village, Ark.)Why? He also didn’t understand why he couldn’t get out of his depressed state of mind. So, in the midst of his emotional and mental battle, he questioned his own soul. “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?” (11).

Hope. Then, he responded to his own questions, and he spoke words of life to his soul: “Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God” (11).

Soul rein.
Sometimes I must speak to my soul—take hold of the reins of my thoughts and steer them toward the truth.

I speak to my soul a lot lately. I can’t claim that the negative thoughts never come anymore. But I’m getting a firm grip on the truth with God’s help.

I’m thankful for God’s firm Hand of discipline, guiding me with His unconditional love and words of life.
