What’s your OneWord for 2015?
Everyone keeps asking that question. I hesitate responding, but under pressure I mutter, “Essential.”
Essential? I know you might be thinking, “She must have read the book, Essentialism, by Greg McKeown.”
“Yep!” You’re right. And it’s an excellent book, too. But I have other reasons for selecting this word.
Honestly, I didn’t really want to adopt just “one word” for a whole year. I like many words since I’m a writer. But “essential” just happens to be the “one word” that pops into my head every time someone asks about my “OneWord” for 2015.
Focus. Why the need to narrow my focus to just one major goal?
I’m working on an important project right now. In fact, I’m not sure how blogging is going to fit into my time table for the next few months. So, that’s why I’m writing this post.
Perseverance. “I am doing a great work, and I cannot come down … ” (Neh. 6:3 HCSB). In the Bible, Nehemiah addressed those who were trying to discourage him from his work. I admire Nehemiah’s perseverance and ability to resist the temptation to get distracted and pull away from his work.
Right now, I need to do the same thing–focus and persevere. So, this post serves as a notice to all the “inessential” tasks and projects that I can’t focus on now. I need honor an important deadline. And I plan to share all about it soon on this blog. So, stay tuned.
But back to work for now. I’ll see you when I “come down.”
What projects or goals are you focusing on this year?
